English Language Enrichment
This program is focused on
providing supplemental language arts instruction for all students, grades
1-6. Groups focused on English Language Development, extra support in developing reading skills, reading comprehension, and
enrichment receive instruction for 35 minutes, four day a
week. Student progress is monitored and group assignments are adjusted as
needed.
- Students in need of English Language Development
receive instruction based on their level of language proficiency that
focuses on developing their speaking, listening, reading and writing
skills using a variety of curricula that may include Language for
Learning, Language for Thinking or Language for Writing, Rosetta Stone as well as other
academic language development strategies.
- Students receiving extra support in reading focus on
developing their decoding, fluency and/or comprehension skills using
curricula that may include SIPPS, Read Naturally, Rewards curriculum
(emphasis on decoding multi-syllabic words), and other comprehension based
activities.
- Students reading at grade level or beyond participate
in other language-based enrichment activities such as writing in a variety
of genres, literature circles discussions, etc.
