Scholastic World Reading Challenge

Our students have made tremendous progress in their reading this year.  To encourage them to continue their development as readers and to nurture the love of reading, it is important that they continue to read during the summer.  Continuing to read will also build reading skills that will help our students as they move into a new grade in August. 

The Scholastic Summer Challenge on the Scholastic.com website was developed to promote reading over the summer.  We have sent home information about the Scholastic World Reading Challenge, a web-based program where students can post minutes read during the summer, and add them to a total which will set a new world record for reading.  Please sign up at www.scholastic.com/summer.  We think this can be a good motivation for our students to keep up the reading throughout the summer. 

We plan to open the computer lab on a couple of dates (to be announced on the school web site and posted on signs in the front of school) during the summer for students to add in their minutes.  The site also has book reviews and games, which will be fun for our students.  We are also planning on holding a book swap on these dates for children to pick up new books.

Please encourage your students to read many fun books this summer and keep track for our world record!
